  Email: jblocker@colletonprep.org

Janis K. Blocker, a native and resident of Round O, is in her 41st year in the classroom. An honor graduate of Walterboro High School, she graduated summa cum laude from The Baptist College (now Charleston Southern U.) with a degree in English. She earned a master's degree in Teaching English from the Citadel. Her teaching career started at John C. Calhoun in 1974, beginning with the 6th and 7th grades before moving to the 9th and 11th grades and becoming advisor to the school newspaper and coach of the Academic Team. After ten years at the Academy, she resigned to go to Walterboro High School, where she taught AP English, English III and IV Honors, coached the Academic Team, and served as co-advisor to the yearbook and newspaper for the next fifteen years. She “officially” retired in 1991 but spent the next eight years teaching at both Colleton Prep and Colleton County High School for second semester only each year. After that she taught another three years at the high school before “retiring” yet again for three years. She was called back “home” by Colleton Prep in 2015 to teach English IV Honors each second semester. She and her husband David have three adult children (two are graduates of the Academy), six grandchildren, two great-grands, and Jasmine (their Golden Retriever).
