October Deadline

The WENDY's High School Heisman award is open to any senior who has at least a "B" average and participates in a least one school-sponsored sport. If you are one of the first 1,000 students to successfully submit an application you will receive a $10 Wendy's gift card! Applications are due  October 3rd. For more information go to   


December Deadline

CERRA  funds the Teaching Fellows Program for students who have high academic achievement, a history of service to the school ore community, and a desire to teach South Carolina's children.  Recipients of this award agree to teach in SC public schools one year for every year they receive the fellowship.  For more information, see Ms. Arrington or go to Deadline for application is December 1st. 

The Elk's National Foundation's Most Valuable Student scholarship application is available in the guidance office. The 2017 Most Valuable Student scholarship contest, open to any high school senior who is a US Citizen, will kick off September 1, 2016. Applicants will be judged on scholarship, leadership, and financial need. Applications for the 2016 contest will be available to download after September 1, 2016. Along with national awards, students can compete for scholarship awards through our local Elk's lodge.  Applications can also be found at  You do not have to be a member to apply. Deadline is in  November 30, 2016.

The Elk's National Foundation Legacy Awards are available starting September 1, 2016 at for children or grandchildren of Elk's club members. (Please read over eligibility.)  The 2017 Legacy Awards applications will be due online by 12:00 p.m. (noon) Central Time on Friday, January 29, 2017.


March Deadline

The Elaine Fogle Scholarship is awarded to a student who plans to pursue a career in nursing or one of the associated health fields.  Applications are available in the guidance office.  The deadline is in March. 

SC STATE FAIR Scholarship Program.   The completed application, school transcripts, a current photograph and a hand written essay on your educational experience in South Carolina is required. Incomplete applications will not be considered. Fifty students will receive $1,500 toward tuition per year for four years. Applications can be found at the following link: Deadline usually mid-March

The SC Soil & Water Conservation Society offers a $1000.00 scholarship to a student studying the field of conservation/natural resources.  See Ms. Arrington for additional information.  The deadline to apply is March 16.

The Rufus C. Barkley, Jr. Leadership Scholarship is available for students from Berkeley, Charleston, Colleton, and Dorchester counties.  It is managed through the Coastal Community Foundation.  The application and more information can be found at The deadline for application is in March.

Palmetto Rural Telephone offers a scholarship opportunity through the Foundation for Rural Service for qualified seniors.  See Ms. Arrington for more information or download an application at  Applications should be postmarked no later than March 3.


April Deadline

The Law Firm of Hetrick, Harvin & Bonds will award two $1000.00 scholarships to graduating high school seniors who reside in Colleton County.  Applications are available in the guidance office.  The deadline is in April.

The Delta Kappa Gamma Society offers a $1000 grant to an outstanding student who plans to pursue the field of education.  For an application, see Ms. Arrington.  Deadline is in mid April. 


May Deadline

Coastal Electric Cooperative is offering a one-time scholarship to the Electrical Line Worker Third Class Certificate program at Trident Technical College. See Ms. Arrington for application. Deadline is in May.

Structural Engineers Association of South Carolina Hilton Head Charter is offering a $1,500 engineering scholarship for residents of Allendale, Bamberg, Beaufort, Colleton, Hampton, or Jasper County.   Applications and all supporting documents should be sent by May 2, 2016.See Ms. Arrington for more information.


Scholarships that are On-Going or without a specific deadline date

SunTrust Off to College Scholarship Sweepstakes is awarding Thirty (30) $500 scholarships for education expenses at a college or university. Free to enter and eligibility not based of GPA or financial need.  Enter once every two weeks, up to 15 times during the sweepstakes period.  Two winners are randomly chosen every two weeks form October 28, 2016 - May 12, 2017. Registration begins September 12, 2016 and the first drawing is held on Oct. 28, 2016.


Helpful Information

  • Applying to Clemson University?  The deadline for priority notification (decision by February 15) is December 1st. 
  • Applying to USC?  Apply by October 15 and you will be notified in mid-December. 
  • College of Charleston?  Early notification (mid-December) deadline is November 1st!

ALL SENIORS need to provide a copy of college acceptances and scholarship offers to Ms. Arrington as you receive them.  We will compile the list of offers and scholarship amounts and announce the class totals on Awards Day. 

Cap and Gown pictures will be taken on TBD in the gym.  Boys should wear dark trousers, a shirt and tie, and appropriate shoes.  Girls need to wear a dress or skirt and appropriate shoes.  Individual and group photos will be taken.  Picture packets and caps and gowns will be distributed the week before pictures are taken.  Pictures will be available within three weeks!

APPLY EARLY!  An early application can make a difference.  If you intend to take the SAT or ACT later this fall, you should still go ahead and apply early.  You may have your scores sent directly from The College Board or ACT Program to the college.

If you apply to a college online, you must print the counselor report (sometimes called "secondary school report" or "transcript report form") and bring it to the Guidance Office.  Ms. Arrington will submit this form with your official transcript. 

REMINDER:  Anyone who is interested in participation in Division I or II athletics as a college freshman must register with the NCAA Clearinghouse at  Our high school code is 412045.  After you register, print out the transcript request form and give to Ms. Arrington so your transcript can be sent.
